A few years ago the games that were available on mobile phones weren’t very impressive. Although it was handy to have a game on your mobile phone, they did not even scratch the surface of the standard you would get on a mobile games console such as a Gameboy. However these days things seem to have improved quite a bit and a lot of people feel that there is no longer a need to be buying a mobile games console anymore. With the arrival of things like the iPhone we can now play games that are beyond anything previously available on a mobile device. This is really good news for the people who prefer not to be carrying around lots of different devices.

Although it would be a bit premature to relegate the mobile games console to the past just yet. The Nintendo DS remains popular and so does the PSP. There seems to be constant innovation and although the games available with phones are impressive they are just not the same standard as the new games available for the mobile consoles. At the end of the day things like the iPhone will always be great multi-taskers and are not designed specifically for games – unlike the consoles.

Personally I really don’t need a mobile game console, and find that the phone now plays games that are high quality enough to keep me entertained for hours. But there are many serious gamers who will be keeping hold of their mobile games consoles for quite a while as they would not see mobile phone games as up to the standard that they are used to. The gap between the games on phones and consoles is definitely closing though, and it might not be too long before there really is no need for separate devices. The speed at which the technology is changing is amazing.
