A Look At The Blackberry Curve

Posted on 12 September 2010 by PaulNelson

Blackberry phones are always popular, thanks to a long list of great features and super fast speeds. Now the company introduces its thinnest device yet, the Blackberry Curve. Blackberry has managed to pack all the functionality of their earlier smartphones into one of the lightest full keypad devices on the market. You would be hard-pressed to find another full QWERTY keypad on a phone this light and small.

Despite its slender appearance, this is one smartphone that can handle the daily abuse that we all seem to subject our phones to. Even after years of being dropped, dunked or forgotten, the Curve will keep you connected. This wonderfully sleek phone has that distinctly Blackberry look, but it tucks nicely into a pocket or small handbag. You will also enjoy the new TFT LCD screen, a 2.4 inch marvel that provides a fantastic picture with its 480 x 360 pixel resolution.

The placement of the key navigation aids – like the Talk, Back, End, Menu and Navigator buttons – is designed to ensure quick and easy access to all your services, whether you are making a call or checking your e-mail. Found just below the screen, their location helps simplify all your multitasking. Additional controls are located along the side, and can be easily controlled with just one-hand. Even Blackberry newbies will enjoy the Curve – preloaded with the popular Blackberry OS 4.6.1.114, anyone can quickly learn how to navigate among all the different features.

Among the other great features are a built-in GPS so you will have easy access to such great sites as TeleNav GPS Navigator, Blackberry Maps and Google Maps. This new smartphone has also been given a web browsing upgrade, so you can now enjoy using an HTML web browser with RSS Feeds and media stream support; you will be able to enjoy video clips from such favorites as YouTube or Hulu. Even the memory has been upgraded – you will now have an internal memory of 64MB and an expandable memory slot for microSD storage cards.

With its massive 3.2 megapixel digital camera, wireless Internet, and many other exceptional functions, this awesome smartphone is certainly a popular choice among discerning cellphone users everywhere. Regardless of whether or not you are looking into a smartphone for the very first time, or you are a “techie geek” that can not wait for the latest technology, the Blackberry Curve offers a wide array of remarkable features that are hard to find in any other cellphone in this price range. Although this Blackberry model is a bit more expensive than just any average cellphone, great deals can be found if you look around a little for this very affordable smartphone – even under a hundred bucks!

The HTC Desire

Posted on 12 September 2010 by PaulNelson

The HTC Desire continues HTC’s tradition of releasing quality smartphones. Their last release was the HTC Legend, and the Desire carries over a lot of the same features, but with a better processor and screen. With the 1GHz processor you find on the HTC Desire, it is easy to flip between applications and multitask to your heart’s content, knowing that it will keep up with anything you want to do. You can access these great features on one of the largest screens a smartphone can feature.

With the HTC Desire, you get Android 2.1 and HTC Sense that powers your user interface, giving you an incredibly intuitive and easy to customize experience on your smartphone. The touch screen enables you to pinch zoom on the main menu to get to any one of your seven fully customizable home screens, full of the widgets and applications you can get in the Android Market. Check out your contacts, social networking, bookmarks and the like with the press of a button, or the swipe of a finger.

The HTC Desire really shines when it comes to its superior touch screen, which measures in at 3.7″, which is larger than any other smartphone on the market, giving it a lot of information with its 480 x 800 pixel resolution. You can see these applications very sharply with the AMOLED technology behind the screen, which can come in handy when you are reading a lot of small print in web browsing and reading emails.

With the bigger screen, you can use the touch-screen QWERTY keyboard very easily no matter what mode you are in, allowing you to minimize the typos that usually come with these types of interfaces. This way, it is simpler than ever to send out a little email very quickly, and you can look at Word, Excel and PowerPoint files with the Quick Office program, and PDFs are easier to access than ever before with the PDF reader.

Those of you with experience in using Android phones will not be surprised by the user interface, which includes a series of four buttons – Home, Menu, Back, and Search. The Search button is particularly interesting, as it will search both your phone and Google at the same time. As you type out your search criteria, it will sort through both until it is just left with Google, in the event that what you are looking for is not on your phone. This is the kind of intuitive interface that you will be glad you picked up once you get this smartphone.

The Motorola Milestone XT720 : A Short Guide

Posted on 12 September 2010 by PaulNelson

Motorola has updated their Milestone handset with the Milestone XT720. This latest version has some great new features, but is notably lacking the slide-out QWERTY keyboard. Without the keyboard, the XT720 is about 3mm thinner than the original, though its size and weight are about the same. Given how difficult the slide-out keyboard could be, it is unlikely that anyone will mourn its passing. The handset come with a 1390 mAh battery, which according to Motorola has a maximum standby time of 13 days and will allow 4.5 hours of talk time before needing a recharge.

The Motorola Milestone XT720’s big advantage is its price. It is noticeably cheaper than either the HTC Desire or the Google Nexus One, both of which come with a 1 GHz processor. By comparison, the XT720 comes with a relatively small 550 MHz processor and 256 MB of RAM. This does not mean the phone is slow however. In terms of processing power and speed, it performs almost every task very well.

Motorola did not make any changes with the display – using the same one offered in the original Motorola Milestone (a 3.7″ display of 852 x 480 pixels). The XT720 actually shines in this category, if compared with a much more expensive model like the HTC Desire. Even though the Milestone display is slightly less intense, it actually functions better in sunlight that the Desire’s OLED technology does and boasts a higher resolution.

The Motorola Milestone XT720 features a whopping 8 megapixel digital camera. There is an integrated Xenon flash and several picture taking options. This is one of the biggest changes to the Milestone which makes it a great camera phone for just about anyone. You can also make movies and short videos thanks to its operating software which are easily transferable to any format. You are definitely going to want to take pictures with this phone since your pictures will come out a lot clearer with higher resolution than any other smartphone out on the market.

The operating system for this phone is the Android 2.1, so you will be able to enjoy a huge array of apps, from the entire Google collection to the ever expanding world of the Android market. The XT720’s high screen resolution makes it the perfect choice for viewing web pages, and the included browser makes this possible. This phone will also support the usual array of video and audio formats such as MP3, MPEG4, ACC, AAC, AMR and WMA. Though if you prefer to listen to your favorite radio station, there is also an FM radio. You will also find a 3.5 mm audio socket, which can be used with any pair of good headphones.

iPhone 4 Review

Posted on 12 September 2010 by PaulNelson

The aesthetic design of the iPhone 4 makes it really stand out from the competition. It is noticeably slimmer than the iPhone 3GS, measuring 9.3mm deep, whereas the iPhone 3GS’s is 12.3mm (that works out to be about 24% less). The iPhone 4 is slightly narrower too – 59mm to 62mm. The overall weight is the same – 136g – but the changes to the dimensions make the iPhone 3GS seem somewhat ‘bulky’ in comparison. Changes in design are of course just the tip of the cell phone iceberg. Where the Apple iPhone 4 really shines is in the technological department. After all, beauty is only skin deep. Maintaining the 3.5-inch display of the iPhone 3GS, the iPhone 4 doubles the resolution of its display to 960 by 640 pixels. The IPS display is comprised of 326 pixels per inch, making it the highest resolution phone available. Also featured on the iPhone 4 is the Retina display. The name refers to the fact that the display is greater in number of pixels than the human retina is able to process. The high number of pixels brings a new level of performance in sharpness, clarity, and detail of the images seen on the phone. The in-plane switching (IPS) techniques found on all iMac and iPad displays also appears on the iPhone 4. The bright, lustrous display and its huge viewing angle make images look excellent from any position. The Apple iPhone 4 contains the companys A4 CPU. This is the same processor found in the Apple iPad. Running on the iOS 4 operating system, a number of capabilities are available to the Apple iPhone 4. The recently renamed iOS 4 provides the long-awaited multitasking function. Just as with the welcome and long awaited copy and paste feature, Apple has come through by making the multitasking feature operate without a hitch. Camera and video advancements are also welcome enhancements to the iPhone 4. The primary camera has received a boost from 3 to 5 megapixels. This is accomplished with the same size pixels. Also new is an LED flash, backlit sensor and a 5X integrated zoom. High-def video is now possible at 720p and 30 frames per second. The tap-to-focus feature previously found only on the camera is now included on the video recorder. Anyone who owns an iPhone or iPhone 3G should consider the iPhone 4 a must own. Including design changes that are pleasing to the eye, the iPhone 4 has made technological advances that improve its performance as well as its imaging capabilities. These changes make it a noticeable upgrade to previous incarnations of the iPhone.

Learn About The HTC Desire

Posted on 12 September 2010 by PaulNelson

Packing a wide array of features inside the handset, the attractive HTC Desire is almost identical to the already released Google Nexus One. It weighs 135g, and measures 119 x 60x 11.9, both about standard. The HTC Desire is a bit larger than the Nexus One, due to the addition of a 3.7 AMOLED screen. It still retains the pleasing curved shape of the Nexus One. By replacing the trackball found beneath the scream of the Nexus One, the HTC Desire offers a more responsive product with better optical capabilities. A high quality 5 mega pixel camera is part of the HTC Desire. Its autofocus and LED flash go far in improving the quality of pictures taken in low lighting conditions. The HTC Desire can also capture video at a resolution of 800 x 400. It comes with a micro SD card slot that increases the 512 MB of built in memory to 16 GB. The HTC Desire offers fast and easy user friendliness due to its extremely powerful 1Ghz Qualcomm Snapdragon Processor. The real appeal of HTCs new product is its announcement of a handset that includes a Sense user interface as well as the Android 2.1 OS. The display is clean and offers what may be the best navigation between menus of all handsets available today. The Sense system features, amongst other things, a calendar widget which shows the user their full schedule rather than just a view of the current month. This is a great feature for business users especially. Scrolling your finger across the bottom of the screen whilst using an application opens up extra elements of that app, which makes for great usability. This principle is also incorporated into the messaging, contacts and music screens. You can even change music tracks, due to improvement in the media player facility, by dragging your finger across the bottom of the Desire. A very deep and natural black color and a good responsiveness are features of the 3.7 screen which does a great job with movie playback. The new smartphone, the HTC desire, is one of very few handsets that incorporate great looks, swift performance and a wide array of features. It is, without question, one of the best smartphones to come onto the market in 2010.

Samsung Galaxy : Is It Worth The Money?

Posted on 12 September 2010 by PaulNelson

It is fairly obvious that most smartphone manufacturers have decided that the Android operating system is the future. Many of them place the OS on almost every device they release. Samsung is one of those companies who has taken Android technology and run with it. It hopes to maintain its status near the top of the market with the release of the Samsung Galaxy.

Just because customers want to carry all of the music, television, and personal data and management they can with them, they do not want to feel that the house is in their pocket. Samsung avoids this predicament by creating a slim, slender phone with the Samsung Galaxy. It measures 122.4 x 64.2 x 9.9mm and weighs merely 119g. The Galaxys looks bears some resemblance to the iPhone 3GS with its black plastic and metal construction. Some would rather that the device distinguish itself from the pack a little more, but that is a small complaint for a phone that excels at what it does.

One aspect of the device that does separate the Samsung Galaxy from the crowd is the 1 GHz Hummingbird processor, one of the fastest in the field. 8GB of internal storage is included with the phone, and there is a microSD slot that can accommodate up to 32GB cards if 8 is not enough. The 8GB are split roughly into 6GB for media functions and 2GB for applications. The Samsung Galaxy connects with triband 900/1900/2100 HSDPA/HSUPA. This is coupled with other contemporary technology such as Bluetooth 3.0 and a microUSB 2.0 port.

Though the Galaxy certainly does not lack in the speed department, the phone truly excels with its display. The screen itself is a huge, 4-inch capacitive touchscreen that responds very well. It offers 800 x 480p resolution with Samsungs Super AMOLED display, already a better option than the standard AMOLED and LCD displays of previous models. Super AMOLED also provides much better viewing on the Samsung Galaxy in direct sunlight than many other smartphones.

The Samsung Galaxy utilizes Samsungs own TouchWiz 3.0 user interface on top of the Android 2.1 operating system. This takes some getting used to for those who are familiar with the regular Android 2.1 interface. The TouchWiz does improve the notification bar, providing persistent shortcuts to toggle between vibrate and silent modes, Bluetooth, and WiFi. The Samsung Galaxy also addresses social networking with Social Hub, a function that combines Facebook, Myspace, and Twitter updates into a single stream.

Samsung has produced high quality Android phones in the past, and it has continued to do so with the Samsung Galaxy. The device falls somewhere at the top of the market in speed and functionality. Customers will be more than pleased to own the Samsung Galaxy.
